Trekking to Quilotoa

This day was one of the highlights. We got to trek to an amazing crater lake. The trek was one of the more strenuous we did in Ecuador. There was a lot of uphill and the crater was at 13,000 ft, so less oxygen then we are used to. It was a beautiful morning from the time we left the Mama Hilda's.

In Ecuador there really are not very many switchbacks. You take the fastest route, which is usually straight up the mountain. We started the day in a beautiful valley. We hiked on the edge of a steep cliff until we made it to the top.

The weather was amazing as well as the views.

Walking around the rim of the crater before we actually saw it. Finally a little flat after so much uphill.

I was feeling tired by the time we made it to the crater. But it was definitely worth the hike! The first thing we had to do was put on our jackets. It was so windy!

And then take sooooooooo many pictures. It was beautiful.

After lots of pictures we walked around the rim to where we would have lunch and pick up our car.

The lake was so pretty it was hard to leave. It was also a very steep drop off from the rim to the lake. There was only one spot that I saw that allowed for people to hike down to the lake.

It felt great to sit down and enjoy some delicious food!

A picture of a flower I took on the hike. I thought the purple weed/flower was pretty.

We had to drive a while to get to our nightly accommodations. We stopped on the way to pick up some fruit. I love how colorful the fruit stands are. They also have amazing variety.

We were headed to Andaluza Hacienda for the night. It was a fancy Hacienda at the base of Chimborazo, another volcano.

They Hacienda had nice accommodations and a spa.

I paid to soak in the hot tub. It was amazing!
