Glacier Day 2 - July 7th

We started the day with a picture by the Glacier National Park sign.
We knew we wanted to hike the Highline Trail on this day. It is a 12 mile one way hike. You start at the top of Logan Pass and the hike 12 miles and catch a shuttle back to the pass. The trick is getting a parking spot at Logan Pass. It is a small parking lot and not organized at all!!!! I had read beforehand if we got there before 11 we should be fine. We were not. I also read that the average wait time is 11 minutes and most people just give up and leave. We waited 45 minutes!!! Thankfully we didn't give up because the hike was amazing but the parking was very frustrating. The Logan Pass drive is supposedly one of the prettiest drives in the entire world. I will say it is beautiful. We drove the rode three times during our trip and it is pretty amazing. Once we finally got a parking spot we packed up food and hit the trail!

As a side note Glacier is the only National park that is in two countries. Canada and the US, so they fly both flags all over the park.
First we had to take pictures with the continental divide sign. This was the start of our hike.
This hike was amazing. Not too strenuous considering it was 12 miles. If you are in Glacier this is a must do in my opinion. You get to see so much of the park. It felt similar to hiking in Switzerland. Snow capped mountains everywhere. Logan Pass had only been open for under a week so it was like spring up there. The wildflowers were AMAZING!

This picture is overexposed but it shows how beautiful it was.

Around every corner there were more amazing mountains to look at.

One of the rangers told us that these flowers only bloom once every 5 years. We were lucky to be there on a year they bloom. I didn't research this fact on my own so who knows how accurate it is.
The hike was pretty flat for 7.5 miles. You just walked straight across the mountains. The trail ran parallel to Logan Pass and we could see all the cars driving the road.....way down below.
At mile 7.5 you reach the Granite Park Chalet and then it is all down hill from there.
Go to Glacier ASAP if you can.
After the hike we headed back to lake McDonald and took a nap in our hammocks. It was a great way to end the evening.

One other fact about Montana - they have amazing sunsets. Like so beautiful. Every night it was amazing to watch the sunset.
